About Rysa Leadership
-
Rysa Leadership helps mid-market companies strengthen the leadership, organizational capacity and people systems required to perform in a complex business environment.
We provide fractional Chief People Officer leadership and leadership development, working with CEOs, executive teams and private equity firms when performance depends on stronger decision-making, clearer accountability, greater leadership depth or a better fit between the organization and the strategy.
-
We're based in Victoria, BC, and serve clients across North America. Most work happens remotely with regular on-site visits for key meetings, leadership sessions, and relationship building.
-
We work primarily with mid-market companies of 50–250 employees, including privately held and private equity-backed businesses.
Our clients are typically navigating increasing complexity, leadership transitions, restructuring, M&A, succession, changing market conditions, or a future transaction. Most are in technology, life sciences, professional services or finance.
-
Technology, life sciences, professional services, and finance are our core industries. We also work with clients in other sectors when they're 50-250 employees and need strategic people leadership or leadership development.
-
Yes. Rysa works with private equity firms and portfolio-company leadership teams on organizational and leadership issues that may affect execution of the investment thesis.
That can include management-team capability, founder and key-person dependency, organization design, succession, executive-team effectiveness, leadership depth and exit readiness.
Fractional CPO Basics
-
A fractional Chief People Officer provides senior people and organizational leadership on a part-time basis, typically 1–2 days per week.
The role goes beyond traditional HR. A fractional CPO works at the executive table on issues such as organization design, leadership capacity, succession, decision rights, executive-team effectiveness and the people implications of business strategy.
-
A fractional CPO gives you experienced executive-level leadership without adding a full-time role before the business requires one.
You pay for the strategic capacity you need, gain flexibility as priorities change, and can often bring senior expertise into the business more quickly than through a full executive search. For some companies, that also means materially lower total cost than a full-time CHRO.
-
An HR consultant is usually brought in for a defined project or area of expertise. A fractional CPO becomes part of the leadership team and helps shape decisions over time.
The work includes advice and execution, with accountability for strengthening the organization’s leadership, structure and people systems as business priorities change.
-
A fractional CPO can make sense when the business has become more complex than your current leadership or people infrastructure can comfortably support.
Common signs include too many issues escalating to the CEO, unclear accountability, leadership gaps, inconsistent execution, succession risk, restructuring, M&A, or a need for stronger organizational capacity without adding another full-time executive.
-
A fractional CPO works with the CEO and executive team on the leadership and organizational conditions required to execute the business strategy.
That may include organization design, executive-team effectiveness, succession, management depth, strategic workforce planning, decision rights, leadership development, M&A integration, board reporting and mentoring internal HR leadership.
Leadership Development
-
Rysa helps leaders build the judgment and capacity to navigate complexity, make better decisions and work through challenges that do not have obvious answers.
The development happens while leaders tackle real business issues, so they strengthen capability while making progress on work they are already accountable for.
-
Training teaches frameworks and skills, then people return to business as usual. We facilitate your team through actual challenges they're facing, so they build capacity while delivering results. Leaders develop greater capacity by applying it directly to the decisions and challenges they are already accountable for.
-
A half-day working session where your team tackles a real business challenge while we identify the leadership and team dynamics affecting execution.
You leave with progress on the challenge, greater clarity about what is getting in the way, and a practical view of where to focus next.
-
Adaptive Leadership Labs are 6–12 month engagements in which leaders work together on high-stakes business challenges while developing greater capacity to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities and interdependent issues.
The goal is progress on real business challenges and stronger collective judgment across the leadership team.
-
It depends on the service. The Leadership Capacity Diagnostic is a half-day. Fractional CPO partnerships typically run 12-24 months. Adaptive Leadership Labs span 6-12 months. Executive Partnering can be ongoing monthly or custom engagements.
-
For fractional CPO work, typically 1-2 days per week depending on your company size and needs. For leadership development, we design the cadence around your team’s availability, the complexity of the challenge and the capability the organization needs to build.
-
Both. Most strategic work happens remotely, but we visit regularly for leadership team meetings, retreats, culture initiatives, and relationship building. Frequency depends on your needs and location.
-
We start with a 30-minute conversation to understand your challenges and explore fit. If there's alignment, we design a customized proposal. Once we begin, the Diagnose phase helps us understand the business context, leadership dynamics and organizational conditions affecting performance.
-
For fractional CPO engagements, typically within 2-3 weeks. For leadership development work, timing depends on the scope and your team's availability. We move as quickly as you need while ensuring we set up for success.

Working Together
-
We start with what is happening in the business, what is becoming harder, and what needs to be different.
From there, we look at company size, strategy, leadership structure, decision-making, organizational challenges and the people systems that may be contributing to the issue.
-
Yes. We often work alongside an existing HR leader or team. Rysa operates at the strategic and executive level while helping internal HR strengthen its capability and focus on the work it is best positioned to own.

-
Start with a conversation about what is happening in the business.
Sometimes the need is clearly fractional CPO leadership or leadership development. In other situations, a focused diagnostic or organizational assessment can help identify where leadership, structure or decision-making is constraining performance before deciding what support is required.
